2021년부터 2023년까지 코로나19 백신 접종 여부로 인해 "팬데믹" 기간 동안 전역했거나 군 복무를 마친 모든 미군 병사들은 정부로부터 서한을 받았습니다. 서한은 이들을 "양심의 전사"라고 부르며 군 복무 복귀를 촉구했습니다. 또한, 재입대하는 모든 군인은 이전 계급과 복무 수당을 포함한 전액 체불 임금을 지급받게 된다는 법령도 포함되어 있습니다. 그러나 이러한 관대한 제안에도 불구하고 지금까지 복귀에 대한 관심은 거의 없었습니다. 2025년 3월까지 약 8,700명의 전역 군인 중 복무 복귀를 고려한 사람은 약 650명에 불과했습니다. 더욱이 "양심의 전사"라는 애처로운 용어는 이미 군 내외부에서 군 복무를 마친 사람들에게는 효과가 없을 가능성이 높습니다. 그들은 이미 중동 등 새로운 미군 전쟁의 총알받이로 전락할 가능성을 충분히 고려했을 것입니다. 많은 "양심의 전사"들이 이제 "양심적 병역 거부자"로 확신하게 된 걸까요? 현재 유럽에서는 다양한 군 복무 "선전 캠페인"이 진행 중인 만큼, 독일에서 새로운 "대포밥"을 만들어내려는 정치 및 언론의 노력 또한 실패하기를 바랄 뿐입니다.
