Wikipedia – a Manipulation Tool of Global Strategists

In the age of the Internet, a simple search inquiry is all it takes to find answers to almost any question in a matter of seconds. Very often, this leads to one site in particular: Wikipedia. What began as a digital encyclopedia is now so much more. Wikipedia is one of the most widely used sources on the Internet and is considered the world's largest online encyclopedia. But it's not just people who come across this platform during their research. In 2025, Wikipedia recorded a 50 percent increase in page views, which can be attributed to the growing use of artificial intelligence. There is a clear trend toward the indirect use of Wikipedia through short answers provided by search engines and AI applications. Wikipedia is therefore no longer just an encyclopedia read by people. This online tool is increasingly becoming part of a digital knowledge infrastructure with a massive impact on all of humanity, because – knowledge is power! Wikipedia prides itself on being a "free encyclopedia." But how free is this power of knowledge really? In this episode, we take you on an exciting journey behind the scenes of Wikipedia and shine a spotlight on the financial forces behind the scenes, as well as their goals. Welcome to Kla.TV! How It All Began In March 2000, Internet entrepreneur Jimmy Wales and philosophy Ph.D. candidate Larry Sanger launched a joint project. Through the company Bomis, they founded the English-language online encyclopedia Nupedia. In 2001, Jimmy Wales launched the Wikipedia project. Wikipedia was originally intended only as a preliminary step for Nupedia articles, but it attracted many contributors and developed a strong momentum of its own. On January 15, 2001, the project finally went live at its own address, wikipedia.com. That day is now considered to be the birth of Wikipedia. A selfless project? As of 2025, the online encyclopedia contained over 66 million encyclopedia articles in more than 350 languages. Wikipedia is therefore the world's largest online encyclopedia and the world's largest collection of knowledge. The so-called wiki system is repeatedly highlighted; it allows users not only to read Wikipedia pages but also to edit them themselves. The site's design is kept simple, and it doesn't give the impression that highly paid web designers were behind it. This impression of frugality is reinforced by the call for donations – as if the operators were dependent on support, as if this were a nonprofit project run by selfless volunteers. Not a word about the cash flows running into the millions, the hard-nosed interests of the biggest financial backers, or the intelligence agencies – which we'll get to in a moment. Manipulation and Character Assassination In 2015, the two German filmmakers and authors Markus Fiedler and Frank-Michael Speer released the documentary “The Dark Side of Wikipedia” – a detailed analysis of Wikipedia’s objectivity. Using the example of Swiss historian Dr. Daniele Ganser and his lectures on the collapse of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, this documentary clearly demonstrates that entries regarding certain individuals and geopolitical topics are being deliberately manipulated. During his research, Markus Fiedler also discovered that there is an inner circle among Wikipedia contributors with a clear hierarchy. Attempts to edit such articles are considered “vandalism” or are blocked by technical measures. This prevents outsiders from contributing objectively and neutrally, and politically undesirable portrayals of events, people, or contexts are censored. Another striking aspect of Wikipedia is that virtually all independent media outlets, educators, and results of investigative research are defamed through the deliberate use of inflammatory terms such as “conspiracy theory” or “conspiracy theorist.” And this is despite the fact that Wikipedia presents itself to the outside world as “the free encyclopedia.” Markus Fiedler concludes that Wikipedia is being used specifically to engage in character assassination. Intelligence Agency Influence Larry Sanger, one of Wikipedia's two founders, served as "Chief Organizer" until 2002, when he left the project following a dispute. He accused Wikipedia of being a tool of control for the American establishment, which includes the CIA, the FBI, and other U.S. intelligence agencies. According to Sanger, intelligence agencies also influence Wikipedia. In his view, they are deliberately using the online encyclopedia as a tool in the so-called “information war.” “We have evidence that as early as 2008, CIA and FBI computers were being used to edit Wikipedia,” said the Wikipedia co-founder. Computer science student Virgil Griffith developed a program that could be used to trace the IP addresses of Wikipedia article editors all the way back to the CIA and the FBI. He was later sentenced to prison for cybercrime. However, Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger personally confirmed that computers belonging to the CIA and the FBI are used to edit Wikipedia articles. CIA computers were used to remove casualty figures from the Iraq War and to edit hundreds of Wikipedia articles. These included entries about former Iranian President Mahmoud Ah ma dine jad, the Chinese nuclear program, and the Argentine Navy. Former CIA Director William Colby also made changes to his own Wikipedia entry. In doing so, he portrayed the achievements listed there in a more favorable light. And the FBI removed aerial and satellite images of the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. The Trail of Power Jimmy Wales, the second co-founder of Wikipedia, was also one of the founding members of the Wikimedia Foundation in 2003. He has been a member of the board of trustees ever since. That same year, Jimmy Wales transferred the rights of Wikipedia to the “Wikimedia Foundation” (WMF), a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco that is regularly funded by generous donations from prominent donors such as George Soros and the Rockefeller Foundation. The foundation is led by a "Board of Trustees," of which Wales is a member. Wales was trained as a YOUNG GLOBAL LEADER by the World Economic Forum in 2007. This program was developed by Klaus Schwab, the founder of the WEF and a high-degree freemason. We'll take a closer look at these organizations and connections in a moment. The main financiers are all members of the “Committee of 300.” In addition to generous private donors like Mark Zuckerberg, Wikipedia has other financial backers. In fact, it is funded largely by the “Wikimedia Foundation”: One of its most significant donors is the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. It has provided over $14 million in funding to Wikimedia since 2008. Since 2011, Doron Weber, Vice President of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, has been a member of the Wikimedia Foundation's Board of Trustees. The foundation was established by Alfred Sloan (1875–1966). He was a member of the Committee of 300 – an organization chaired by the Masonic Windsor family. Other members of this committee, which is at Level 4 of the international Freemasonry hierarchy, are among the Wikimedia Foundation's primary financial backers. The list of the largest donors to the Wikimedia Foundation, which owns Wikipedia, also includes the Rockefeller Foundation, Google, and Apple. The Gates Foundation is also among the other donors. The Rockefeller dynasty is one of the most powerful Masonic families in the world. The Gates Foundation was founded by high-degree Freemason Bill Gates, who is a member of the Rosa Stella Ventorum Masonic lodge. David Rockefeller Sr., David Rockefeller Jr., and Bill Gates are also members of the Committee of 300. Another donor – who, among other contributions, donated $2 million in 2018 – is U.S. billionaire George Soros. George Soros's Open Society Foundation (OSF) provided funding to the Wikimedia Foundation as early as 2008. Soros is also a member of the Committee of 300. In addition, Soros – along with the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Ford Foundation – is a major donor to the scandal-plagued Tides Foundation, which, among other things, managed the Wikimedia Foundation Fund totaling $62.9 million in 2021. The Tides Foundation was labeled “George Soros’s favorite money handler” or a “dark money organization” because it obscured the connections between donors and the organizations they funded. Melissa Hagemann, who was appointed to the Wikimedia Foundation's Board of Trustees in 2015, also served as a senior program manager at the Open Society Foundation (OSF), led by Soros. Ethan Zuckerman, a participant in the WEF's "Global Leaders for Tomorrow" program in 2003 and the "Young Global Leaders" program in 2005, is also a special advisor to the president of the Open Society Foundation and has been a member of the Wikimedia Advisory Board since 2007. The Wikimedia Foundation's list of major annual donors also includes tech giants Apple, Microsoft, and Google. But BlackRock, JPMorgan, Pfizer, Walt Disney, and Bank of America are also among the financiers. The Masonic connections of these organizations are documented at www.vetopedia.org. Interim Conclusion It is obvious that Wikipedia is not a selfless project run by volunteer developers. Rather, it is a gigantic database whose entries have an enormous influence on the way humanity thinks. Whether it's AI results or online searches, there's no getting around Wikipedia. Whoever controls this database can use it to exert significant influence over what information people are exposed to and how they form their opinions. This makes it all the more important to examine the backgrounds and interests of the funders. It is striking that Freemasonry, the Committee of 300, the WEF, and the Young Global Leaders play a major role. Different interests? Rather not … Anyone who examines the power structure of the self-proclaimed “global elite” will find that all of the organizations just mentioned form a pyramidal power structure and ultimately pursue a common goal.
