In juni 2023 vindt de grootste NAVO-luchtmachtoefening uit de geschiedenis van de NAVO plaats. Er zullen 25 landen deelnemen met ongeveer 10.000 deelnemers en tot wel 220 vliegtuigen. Duitsland zal de rol van verdedigingsknooppunt binnen Europa op zich nemen. Al in 2017 nam vredesonderzoeker Jan Oberg bijna 70 jaar NAVO-geschiedenis kritisch onder de loep en concludeerde dat NAVO-operaties geen vreedzame wereld hadden gecreëerd.

In juni 2023 vindt met deelname van 25 landen de tot nu toe grootste manoeuvre sinds het ontstaan van de NAVO plaats. Op de website van de Duitse strijdkrachten staat dat Air Defender specifiek bedoeld is om de luchtstrijdkrachten van de NAVO en haar bondgenoten te verenigen en samen te brengen in een oefening. Verder staat er dat collectieve waarden zoals vrijheid en democratie hierdoor versterkt zullen worden. De drie belangrijkste locaties van Air Defender 2023 zijn gepland in Sleeswijk-Holstein, Nedersaksen en Beieren. Het doel is om de kracht van de alliantie te laten zien. De Zweedse vredesonderzoeker Jan Oberg concludeerde in 2017 al dat de NAVO in de vele decennia tot nu toe geen vreedzame wereld heeft gecreëerd. De aanleiding was toen de verhoging van de veiligheidsuitgaven door het NAVO-bondgenootschap. We zenden de opmerkingen van Jan Oberg en de Britse redacteur van BS-News, Mike Raddie, opnieuw uit in deze uitzending, omdat ze vandaag de dag actueler zijn dan ooit. Op woensdag 28 juni 2017 kondigde secretaris-generaal van de NAVO Jens Stoltenberg tijdens een persconferentie aan dat de veiligheidsuitgaven van het NAVO-bondgenootschap in 2017 met 4,3 procent zouden stijgen. Dit was de grootste stijging sinds 2014, aldus Stoltenberg, die eraan toevoegde dat de multinationale strijdkrachten van de NAVO in de Baltische staten en Polen - aan de grens met Rusland - nu volledig operationeel waren. De NAVO is met het oog op mogelijke agressie door Rusland eensgezind, zei Stoltenberg. De Zweedse conflictonderzoeker Jan Oberg, directeur van de "Transnational Foundation for Peace and Futures Research", is kritisch over de stijging van de wapenuitgaven. Vredesonderzoeker Jan Oberg stelt dat het onredelijk is om belastingbetalers te vragen nog meer miljarden Amerikaanse dollars te betalen voor het NAVO-budget, omdat ze er steeds minder vrede, veiligheid en stabiliteit voor terugkrijgen. De NAVO heeft de afgelopen 68 jaar slecht werk geleverd en heeft geen vreedzame wereld gecreëerd, zegt hij. De Britse co-redacteur Mike Raddie van het informatieportaal BSNews, dat zichzelf omschrijft als een tegengeluid voor het mainstream nieuws, voegt hieraan toe, in een interview met RT: "De NAVO is onderdeel van het wereldwijde imperium van de VS. We mogen niet vergeten dat ze minstens 800 militaire bases over de hele wereld hebben. Bovendien werden de Amerikaanse Special Forces vorig jaar in 138 landen ingezet. Dat is 70 procent van alle landen ter wereld. Ze zijn dus alomtegenwoordig, ze zijn overal. Er zijn maar weinig landen die op dit moment geen Amerikaanse aanwezigheid op hun grondgebied hebben. In sommige landen zijn deze special forces er voor trainingsdoeleinden. Ze zijn er alleen om de lokale troepen te trainen. Het heeft alles te maken met het veiligstellen van bedrijfsbelangen. Ze zijn er niet om mensen te redden of te helpen. Ze zijn er om bedrijfsbelangen te beschermen, waar die zich ook bevinden." Conclusie: Volgens het onderzoek van Mike Raddie is de NAVO geen garantie voor vrede, maar een plaatsvervangend agent van het wereldwijde Amerikaanse imperium om zijn bedrijfsbelangen te bevorderen. Elke dienstverlener die decennialang slecht werk levert en niet doet wat hij belooft, zou redelijkerwijs worden ontslagen en men zou op zoek gaan naar een andere dienstverlener. Maar waar vrede, veiligheid en zelfs het leven en overleven van hele volkeren op het spel staan, wordt het wanbeheer, d.w.z. de NAVO, niet aansprakelijk gesteld voor duidelijk verkeerde manieren. Is het niet onverantwoordelijk van de politici en bovendien uiterst gevaarlijk om nog meer geld toe te vertrouwen aan de NAVO, die in 68 jaar geen vreedzame wereld heeft gecreëerd, omdat ze duidelijk de belangen van de VS dient? En is het niet tijd voor de volkeren, die allemaal geen oorlog willen, om meer verantwoordelijkheid van de politiek te eisen?
