Vào tháng 7 năm 2023, người sáng lập Kla.TV Ivo Sasek đã cảnh báo về việc thả muỗi biến đổi gen trong phòng thí nghiệm ngày càng nhiều trên toàn thế giới. Đặc biệt ở Brazil, nơi đang phải đối mặt với đợt bùng phát sốt xuất huyết lớn nhất trong lịch sử vào mùa hè này, những con muỗi như vậy đang được thả ra môi trường để chống lại căn bệnh truyền nhiễm. Tuy nhiên, kết quả nghiên cứu từ các thí nghiệm trước đây phản đối việc thực hiện các thí nghiệm về muỗi như vậy. Tuy nhiên, cách tiếp cận này vẫn tiếp tục mà không hề nản lòng. Kể từ tháng 10 năm 2023, Brazil đã ghi nhận đợt bùng phát sốt xuất huyết trên toàn quốc lớn nhất trong lịch sử nước này. Hầu như tất cả các bang đều bị ảnh hưởng và tình trạng khẩn cấp đã được ban bố ở một số khu vực. Nhật báo “Financial Times” của Anh đưa tin vào ngày 2 tháng 6 năm 2024 rằng cho đến nay đã có 5,5 triệu ca nhiễm trùng được ghi nhận. Sốt xuất huyết có thể gây sốt cao, đau cơ và chảy máu trong, đã gây ra hơn 3.200 ca tử vong trong năm nay. Như đã biết trong nhiều năm, muỗi biến đổi gen trong phòng thí nghiệm đang được thả ở nhiều quốc gia khác nhau trên thế giới, đặc biệt là ở Brazil, để chống lại các bệnh truyền nhiễm. Chương trình Muỗi Thế giới của Liên Hợp Quốc đã công bố vào năm ngoái rằng họ sẽ thả hàng tỷ con muỗi được nuôi ở nhiều địa điểm khác nhau ở Brazil trong thập kỷ tới. Phương pháp nghiên cứu được sử dụng liên quan đến việc lây nhiễm vi khuẩn Wolbachia xuất hiện tự nhiên cho muỗi hổ châu Á và thả chúng vào quần thể muỗi bản địa. Vi khuẩn Wolbachia được thiết kế để ngăn chặn bệnh sốt xuất huyết, virus sốt xuất huyết và các loại virus khác lây truyền từ muỗi sang các loài muỗi khác và từ đó đến quần thể người xung quanh. Cơ quan y tế Brazil đã thử nghiệm việc thả muỗi trong phòng thí nghiệm ở năm thành phố lớn ở Brazil. Nhưng hậu quả của việc thả muỗi này là gì? Ít nhất những số liệu hiện tại cho thấy rõ rằng số ca mắc bệnh sốt xuất huyết không hề giảm mà là mức tăng kỷ lục. Nhìn lại quá khứ cho thấy các dự án nghiên cứu trước đây nhằm ngăn chặn các bệnh truyền nhiễm do muỗi biến đổi gen gây ra đều không hiệu quả. Ví dụ, công ty công nghệ sinh học Oxitec của Anh đã thả hơn 12 triệu con muỗi biến đổi gen ở Brazil từ năm 2013 đến năm 2015. Mục đích của cuộc thử nghiệm thực địa này là để ngăn chặn quần thể muỗi hổ “Aedes aegypti”, loài muỗi đặc biệt chịu trách nhiệm truyền bệnh sốt xuất huyết. Nhưng 30 tháng sau, những thay đổi về gen cũng được tìm thấy ở 60% số muỗi địa phương. Nhưng không chỉ vậy, mức giảm số lượng muỗi hổ mong muốn và đạt được ban đầu đã trở lại mức trước đó sau 18 tháng. Đã xảy ra sự giao thoa giữa muỗi tự nhiên và muỗi biến đổi gen. Điều này đã tạo ra một quần thể muỗi mạnh mẽ hơn trước khi thả ra. Ngoài ra, kết quả nghiên cứu còn chỉ ra rằng muỗi đều là vật mang mầm bệnh truyền nhiễm như nhau trước và sau thí nghiệm. Do đó, câu hỏi đặt ra là lợi ích gì đằng sau các dự án nghiên cứu và ai tài trợ cho việc thực hiện chúng? Ngay từ năm 2019, Chương trình Muỗi Thế giới đã công bố trên trang web của mình rằng Quỹ Bill & Melinda Gates và Wellcome Trust đang hỗ trợ dự án nghiên cứu liên quan đến vi khuẩn Wolbachia với số tiền 50 triệu USD. Quỹ Bill & Melinda Gates đã tài trợ cho nghiên cứu về vắc-xin sốt xuất huyết vào năm 2003. Vắc xin này được sản xuất bởi công ty dược phẩm Nhật Bản Takeda, công ty cũng đã nhận được số tiền hai chữ số triệu từ Quỹ Gates. Nhưng không chỉ có Bill Gates, các tổ chức khác cũng hỗ trợ các dự án nghiên cứu liên quan đến côn trùng biến đổi gen trong phòng thí nghiệm. Ví dụ: tổ chức Khoa học Quản lý Y tế đã thực hiện một nghiên cứu vào năm 2022 để tìm hiểu xem quốc gia nào trên thế giới sẵn sàng trả tiền để sử dụng mầm bệnh mới có tên Wolbachia. Theo thông tin riêng của mình, Khoa học Quản lý Y tế được hỗ trợ bởi nhiều tổ chức, trường đại học và công ty tư nhân. Trong số những tổ chức khác, bởi: Quỹ Bill & Melinda Gates tập đoàn dược phẩm và công nghệ sinh học Pfizer công ty dược phẩm châu Á Takeda, nơi sản xuất vắc xin chống sốt xuất huyết sáng kiến y tế toàn cầu Unitaid và Tổ chức Y tế Thế giới Nhìn vào tổ chức khoa học Brazil Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (gọi tắt là FIOCRUZ), tổ chức khuyến khích sản xuất muỗi, cho thấy một mạng lưới quan hệ đáng kinh ngạc với nhiều tổ chức và trường đại học. Cần nhấn mạnh những điều sau đây: Ngân hàng Thế giới Liên Hợp Quốc Quỹ Nhi đồng Liên Hợp Quốc, gọi tắt là UNICEF Tổ chức Y tế Thế giới Theo các chương trình của Brazil, các dự án nghiên cứu sử dụng muỗi biến đổi gen trong phòng thí nghiệm vẫn chưa bị dừng lại, mặc dù người ta biết rằng họ đang thiếu mục tiêu. Mặc dù thiếu thành công và không có sự suy giảm rõ ràng về các bệnh truyền nhiễm, nhưng vẫn có thêm hàng tỷ con muỗi được thả ra, do đó gây ra chi phí tài chính khổng lồ cũng như sự gia tăng bệnh tật và tử vong. Đằng sau mô hình kinh tế này là gì? Có nên sử dụng muỗi làm vũ khí chiến tranh chống lại loài người trong tương lai? Vẫn còn một kết luận: người dân đang bị tổn hại hàng loạt ở những quốc gia nơi muỗi được thả ra.
